Roxy Wilkinson cannot go long without her medication. As an asthma sufferer, she takes both preventative and relief medications, and if she skips a dose or two it means she runs the risk of triggering an asthma attack.
But she is also busy. Very busy. Roxy, who lives on the Central Coast of NSW, runs a successful dog grooming business that is booked all year round.
Before she discovered MedAdvisor three years ago, she struggled to manage her medication.
She developed asthma seven years ago after a lung infection, and juggling scripts and trips to the pharmacy was a challenge to fit in to her busy lifestyle.
Then she walked into her local pharmacy one day and spotted a poster for MedAdvisor. Figuring she had nothing to lose, she downloaded it and was stunned by the difference it made to her life.
“Downloading the app has helped sort out a lot of the problems in my life,” Roxy says.
“I would often forget when my scripts were due for re-fill and I would go to take my medication and realise I had run out.
“I would then spend a lot of time searching for the script and then, once I found it, I would have to try and find time to put the script in.”
Nowadays, things run a lot more smoothly. Roxy will often schedule her refills on her day off and then pick them up when she has a spare five minutes.
She shows the MedAdvisor app to her GP, too, who is able to see exactly how many repeats she has left.
“I am trying to get my GP to sign up to (MedAdvisor’s) GP Link, which allows him to see my repeats on his own computer,” Roxy says.
Crucially, her streamlined medication management also gives her plenty of time to enjoy what she loves doing most — and that is grooming dogs.
Her ‘All About Your Dog Business’ took off a decade ago and was founded on her determination to do something she loved with her life.
“I started it because I love animals,” Roxy says.
“I used to work at a reptile park, and I have three Shih Tzus that each have three different personalities.
“The local rescue shelter knows that I am a soft touch and they’re always telling me they have a perfect Shih Tzu that I should meet.
“Then I end up adopting them.”
Roxy is also relieved that the dander from her three dogs — and the many pooches she grooms day in and day out — does not set off her asthma.
“Pollen is the worst offender, but thankfully I am not allergic to dogs,” Roxy says.
“I also have a cat, which I am actually allergic to, so I have to be really careful.”
Meanwhile, Roxy is spreading the word about MedAdvisor far and wide, letting friends and family know how much of a difference it has made to her life.
“Some people think it’s going to be quite complicated and technical, but then they download it and see how easy it is,” Roxy says.
“Then I end up saying, ‘I told you so!”
